This course is
an introduction to visual communication and the language of art
through 2-D media such as pencil, pen, pastels, watercolor, and
printmaking. The student is exposed to the elements of art and
various artistic styles.

The student is
introduced to advanced drawing techniques including perspective,
portraiture, and the figure. The course will include experience in
painting, printmaking, and mixed media. Students will be required
to complete a project of 3 works based upon a related theme, and
participate in a Student Gallery Exposition.

The Student will
explore various paint mediums; watercolor, acrylic, and oils.
Beginning with elementary still-life projects, concentrating on
single objects and simple groups that emphasize the basics of shape,
texture, color, and composition the student will progress to a more
ambitious still-life in oils. Landscape, nature studies and
interiors will also be explored. Students will study various
artist’s works and artistic genres. Critique will involve students
in reacting to their own works and the works of their peers both in
oral and written form. |

Pottery & Sculpture

Students will be
introduces students to the basic concepts of sculpture through a
variety of media including clay, paper, wire, wood, and other
materials. Students will also explore basic forms in clay both
functional and decorative. The activities will enhance student’s
learning about a variety of historical and cultural subjects
relative to three-dimensional art. |

Pottery builds on the skills and concepts of Pottery I to develop
