Choir
  • Credit: Full year, 0.5 credit

  • Grade: 9-12

 

Students are introduced to proper vocal technique and given the opportunity to learn and perform music from different styles and periods.  The choir student will gain appreciation for the use of the human voice as an instrument of expression and communication.  Basic music theory skills are incorporated to enhance each student's music reading capabilities.  Concerts may be given at the end of each quarter

Band
  • Credit:   Full year 0.5 credit

  • Prerequisite: Previous band experience

  • Grade: 9-12

High School Band will present classic band literature as well as popular music on a more difficult level.  This is a performance class where students are expected to participate in concerts and other school functions.

Jazz Band
  • Credit:  Full year 0.5 credit

  • Prerequisite: Concurrent registration in Band

  • Grade: 9-12

 

Jazz Band is a course in study and performance of jazz, rock, Latin, funk and fusion styles.  Improvisation will be an integral part of this class.  Students must have previous experience on their instrument.  To be a part of this band, students must play saxophone, trumpet, trombone, piano, bass, drums or guitar or have approval from the director.

Select Vocal Ensemble
  • Credit: 1.0   credit, Full Year course

  • Prerequisite: Audition and instructor approval; concurrent registration in Choir

 

The Select Vocal Ensemble, called the Grace Chanson, is a select singing ensemble for the more advanced music student. A variety of musical styles are explored with emphasis on styles that lend themselves to a smaller ensemble. It is preferred that the participating students have some music reading skills. Selection for Grace Chanson is by audition and the teacher’s recommendation.
