Alumni Newsletter – Issue 6

Hello, GIS Alumni! The 2023-2024 school year is coming to a close next month and what a year it’s been. This year’s school theme is “Bearing Fruit Together” and the GIS community has most definitely been fruitful in many areas. In this issue of our alumni newsletter, we focus on highlighting the accomplishments of our students and community.

GIS students performing the play "Narnia: The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe"

GIS came in with a ROAR as our talented actors and directors interpreted the classic story of “The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe” for the 2024 school play that reached record attendance in GIS history with over 800 tickets sold! The school play opens the door to a magical world of entertainment. “One of my favorite scenes in the play is when Father Christmas comes and passes out presents. It is a beautiful contrast to the stark darkness and hopelessness of being trapped in a world where it is always winter but never Christmas. It shows the start of the turning of the tide toward Aslan’s reign,” Co-director Miss Weber declared about the heartwarming scene.

Campus Development

GIS Tiger Fieldhouse and Gymnasium

With the completion of the Middle School, the next major building project is the Gymnasium & Tiger Field House. The athletics and physical education programs here at Grace are a required part of our core curriculum. As our program grows, so does our need for additional athletic facilities. We will leverage our athletic facilities to reach the surrounding community by hosting co-sponsored events with various schools and organizations.

While raising funds for the Gymnasium & Tiger Field House, we have completed some smaller projects. We have put up welcome signs in front of the Administration Building and the three schools. The many languages on the welcome signs and the row of flag poles in front of the school building represent the diversity of nationalities at GIS. This adds vibrancy to the campus as people enter!

GIS Alumni Class of 2016 Mike Jariyaphruttipong

After graduating from GIS in 2016, Mike completed his Bachelor of Arts (Hons) in Popular Music and Worship as well as his Master of Music in Music Performance from the University of West London (Nexus Institute of Creative Arts Campus) in the United Kingdom. He now works as a full-time musician, music producer, mixing/mastering engineer, song-writer and worship leader at his local church “Kingdom Life” in Chiang Mai, Thailand. His ministry in music also involves working with Thailand’s worship label “Acts Music”, where they have been writing and releasing original worship music in the Thai language. In April 2024, Mike and his team led worship at the biggest Christian Youth gathering in Thailand, “Xtreme 5—Breakthrough.” Last year, nearly 3,000 youths from all over the country came together to worship, pray, and call out for revival in Thailand.

When thinking back on Grace, Mike says, “Grace and its people laid many strong foundations in my personal and spiritual life. This community provided the space and resources for me to grow and develop my character and mindset that, though many years on, still produces visible fruit. I recognize that my time at Grace was one of the most influential and impactful time of my life. And I owe that to my many teachers and friends from Grace.”
