On May 22, the Grace International School community gathered to celebrate and honor Superintendent Steve Anderson and his wife, Judy, as they prepare to conclude nine years of faithful service to GIS.
Guests came dressed up in shades of blue and white to a room full of beach-themed decorations due to Steve’s well-known love of fishing. Everyone was invited to leave personal notes and words of encouragement at a card-writing station, while a video booth provided an opportunity to record messages and memories for Steve and Judy to treasure. Guests also enjoyed a variety of delicious finger foods and desserts throughout the evening.
The program began with a warm welcome from Board of Trustees members Kara Hallead and Aaron Smith. This was followed by a time of worship led by Spiritual Life Director Ben Van Scyoc, accompanied by Nain Ryu from the Spiritual Life Office, centering the evening on gratitude for God’s faithfulness throughout Steve and Judy’s journey at GIS.
One of the highlights of the evening was an exit interview conducted by former Board of Trustees Chair Ryan Shaw. This was a time where Steve, Judy, and the GIS community can look back on the stories and memories that make up all the milestones, challenges, and blessings experienced during Steve’s time as Superintendent.
Staff and students then took the stage to express their appreciation. Many spoke of Steve’s humility, servant-hearted leadership, and genuine care for people. Whether serving as Superintendent or coaching students, Steve made a lasting impact on countless lives. Community members reflected on the way he helped guide GIS through difficult seasons while consistently modeling Christ-like leadership. His commitment to serving others and leading with grace, wisdom, and integrity has left a lasting mark on the school community.
Steve and Judy then shared heartfelt parting words, expressing their gratitude for the relationships, memories, and opportunities they experienced during their years at GIS. After that, the Thai staff came on stage to sing a Thai song based on Psalm 23 as a parting gift for Steve and Judy, reminding everyone of God’s guidance and faithfulness as a new chapter is starting. The celebration concluded with a closing prayer offered by Board of Trustees member Paul Utley.
Thank you, Steve and Judy, for your faithful service, unwavering love, and lasting impact on the Grace International School community. Your legacy will continue to be felt for years to come.
