February was filled with creativity and page flipping because it was “I Heart Reading Month” at the Grace International School library! From special events to everyday moments in the library, students from Kindergarten through Grade 12 celebrated the joy of reading.
Throughout the month, GIS cultivated community through books. The library’s Used Book Sale offered tables full of treasures for just 10–20 baht, allowing students, staff, and parents to browse and build their home libraries. They were also encouraged to keep turning pages to reach their reading goals through the Elementary Book Bingo Challenge.
One of the highlights of the month was the annual Elementary Book Character Parade. Students arrived dressed as their favorite literary characters and paraded around campus. All the creative costumes truly brought different characters to life off the pages.
GIS also had the privilege of welcoming visiting author Jonathan Meres from the United Kingdom. He led engaging assemblies for our K–2 and Grades 3–5 students, inspiring young readers through storytelling, creativity, and imagination. Grade 4 and Grade 5 students also participated in creative writing workshops, where they explored new ideas, sharpened their writing skills, and were encouraged to pursue excellence in their own storytelling.
Meanwhile, Middle and High School students joined the celebration with activities such as Reading Raffles, Book Spine Poetry, Book Olympics, Escape the Library, Grade 9 Membean Hunger Games, and Book Tasting event, all designed to spark curiosity and engagement with books.
“I Heart Reading Month” was for adults too! Staff and parents participated in a book swap event, discovering new favorites by trading stories with one another in the mornings. Additionally, they enjoyed the “Tale-Gate” reception serving up tasty treats before the Book Character Parade.
At Grace International School, we believe literacy goes beyond just being an academic skill. It is part of equipping students to engage with the world thoughtfully and creatively. “I Heart Reading Month” reflects our commitment to pursue excellence and cultivate community as we encourage a lifelong love of reading.
