International Day

Two students perform a Thai dance for the assembly during International Week

It’s February! Meaning, it’s time for the very anticipated International Week at Grace International School! International Week is an annual week-long event that honors and celebrates the diversity of nationalities and cultures represented at GIS. We have over twenty nationalities represented at GIS, each bringing something unique to our community.

This year, International Week kicked off with an assembly where staff, students, and parents came to showcase the cultures of different countries through presentations and performances. We had Korean dance and drum performances, a Thai dance, a Chinese musical performance, and presentations on Latin America and Canada. Wednesday was Game Day, where our staff and parents set up booths with games from different countries. Elementary and secondary students got to play traditional games from Thailand, Korea, China, New Zealand, America, and many other places! The week ended with an international parade in which representatives from each of our twenty-plus countries dressed up in traditional outfits and proudly waved their flag as they paraded around the school. Staff and the rest of the study body were also encouraged to wear national costumes.

Of course, how can you celebrate diversity without food?

Every day, our GIS parents set up booths in the cafeteria to hand out traditional snacks from various countries! This year, students and staff enjoyed treats from Thailand, Korea, China, America, and Africa. Our kitchen staff even went out of their way to cook up special menus to go along with the treats! It was certainly a delicious week for everyone.

GIS extends our utmost gratitude to staff, parents, and students for coming together and helping us celebrate all the different nationalities and cultures in the community. We are proud of our diversity and cannot wait to celebrate International Week again next year!
